This informative book explains the different areas of life we need love from, in the form of Love Vitamins - namely:

(before birth) vitamin g1 : love and support from God
(age 0 - 7) vitamin P1 : love and support from parents
(ages 7-14) vitamin F : love and support family, friends and fun
(ages 14-21) vitamin P2 : love and support from peers
(ages 21-28) vitamin S : love and support from our self
(ages 28-35) vitamin R : love and support from intimate relationship
(ages 35-42) vitamin D : loving a dependant (eg children, pets, gardens)
(ages 42-49) vitamin C : giving back to the community
(ages 49-56) vitamin W : giving back to the world
(age 56 and beyond) vitamin G2 : serving God

  • We need to fill up our love tans with these vitamins - each tank for its own vitamin.

  • If one tank overflows, it starts to suffer - (hence the fighting after the honeymoon period wears off!)

  • we need particular vitamins at particular times of of our lives, hence the reason why:

  • those who get married early (!) feel like something is missing by the time they get to the age of 28

  • those who don't get the love from their parents at the ages of 0-7 can't go on to have fun with friends and extended family

  • if you don't get a particular vitamin when it was needed, you will have problems moving on to the next phase of your life, and it maybe necessary to go back and fill that love tank in order to move forward.

  • John Gray explains how at the age of 56 and beyond, men need to be dependant and have their tanks full - if they don't they will die quickly; and women need to become dependant on others and if they try to do everything themselves they will become stubborn, childlike and have tantrums.

  • If your parents have died, or you are not in contact with them, then you can foster relations with other"parents figures" who can be your counsellor, or someone older than you who you can trust
