Getting Ready for Friday!

Happy Upcoming Friday everyone!

Don't forget to get your houses ready for the weekend so you can kick of your shoes and enjoy!

Friday's Essential Checklist:

Finish off any extra ironing and put it away,

Clear your hotspots,

Dry dust all screens, tops and sills,

Empty all the bins,

Swish & Swipe your toilets,

Hoover the main areas of traffic.

Try not to do any laundry on Fridays or you will be left with a basketful of clothes to iron over the weekend. I get all my laundry done with between Monday-Thursday leaving the weekend to totally relax.

To give you a house as fresh as a daisy that you can really call your haven!

Have a great weekend!

FlyLady sends me too many emails!

Dear Inspirity,

I'm on that FlyLady yahoo group - but I've never really understood it? My inbox just gets full of emails?

Dear Overloaded,

Lol. FlyLady is like that! She sends you loads of emails everyday! I think FlyLady works best if you use a email program such as Microsoft outlook, where you can create “rules” for incoming mail.

My rules automatically delete all of Kelly’s zones, all of the Riley Challenge, all of the reminders to get dressed to shoes, do your morning routine, etc. When all these unwanted reminders get deleted, you have about 5-6 emails per day the testimonials and FlyLady’s musings are the essence.

Hope this helps.

Inspirity.

"Dear Friends,

This essay from my Sweet Darling should be repeated quite often.

At the Charlotte FLY Fest in 2005, Robert was a big hit with our members. He gave them a little insight into our guys' clutter. You have asked him to write an essay about it and he has. The only part you will miss the air guitar dance he did on stage that day. I still laugh at the thought of this.

You can read more from Robert, Tom and the rest of our guys on the www.HeyTom.net website. They answer your questions from a man's point of view every weekday. They have quite a following. They answer all types of questions!

What to expect from your husband and children

Is There Life After Housework? By Don Aslett

On Page 48 of his great book, Don Aslett describes how we can train our children to pick up after themselves - leaving much less cleaning for YOU to do afterwards. He describes two school canteens - in one canteen the dinner ladies clear up in two hours, and the other they take 15 minutes!

Same amount of children... same area... same size of building... but what's the difference? The boss!

"Any lady who clears and cleans up after her husband or kids older than two years deserves the trash she lugs out." (paraphrased)

He provides two suggestions:

1) Refuse to pick up your husband's and children's messes. Insist that they clean it themselves.

2) Write down & display jobs to do.

I purchased a cheap A4 photo frame, and printed out three columns (one for each child) with their names at the top of each column. I put this paper inside the frame and use it as a chore list. I use white board markers which can be rubbed off with a wet cloth.

And for the husband... ask him sweetly to take out the trash - but for all of the big stuff - use your wish list ;)

Delegate the Cooking, the Fascinating Way

by the Fascinating Woman

"Inspirity left a comment on "the key to being a domestic goddess" post she asked, "How do you delegate the cooking?" Well Inspirity, and anyone else curious, here is some information first on whom to delegate to and secondly on how to deal with the some common pitfalls.

"Why should I cook when you do it already?", "This is your thing why should I bother?" The response to a child is fairly simple, "You'll thank me for this one day." or "I just want to equip you with plenty of skills so when you turn eighteen you can feel confident about living on your own if you want."
[Psst: the same argument works for teaching children how to do the laundry, how to clean a toilet, how to iron their clothes, etcetera.]

But what about when the party involved is your husband? I have seen two tactics that work. Tactic No. 1 is to play up what he does well. Does he have an ethnic speciality? [My husband makes amazing Chinese food.] Ask him to make some of those dishes. Several other male friends are masters of the grill and their wives encourage them tobarbecue as often as possible. Other men really enjoy making bread, so find reasons for them to do so."

Do You Have a Home Blessing Hour?

FlyLady recommends you have a weekly home blessing hour in which you do all your main housework - and then you can have fun for the rest of the week.

Well, with 7 people living in Malik House, 3 kids and 3 bathrooms, it takes me more than 1 hour - so I give myself 2 hours!

I have a Monday & Friday Blessings List - you should make your own list of blessing that you need to do weekly aswell - unless you're Born Organised of course - in which case you will be wondering what I'm going on about!

From FlyLady's Website, Click here to read the full article.

"I want you to realize that a Control Journal is just a place to put your routines, basic weekly plan, your zones and other information. With a Control Journal you have a place to keep important items without them getting lost in your numerous hot spots." - FlyLady

FlyLady uses a notebook with plastic sheet protectors so she can use a dry-erase marker to check off the completed items. She also color codes each section and the zones so they are easy to find.

Make your journal special for you - think of it as a positive thing. FlyLady has a zippered pouch for family pictures. She also carries stamps, post-it notes, change, paper clips, money, her credit cards, and drivers license, library cards, etc. in the pouch.

Write a Self-Care List

Self Care has been described in the Surrendered Wife as a marriage-saving tool. We will only by the calm and centred souls that our husbands desire and warm to, if we are looked after, happy, relaxed and contented in ourselves.

Most women are so bogged down with housework, they haven't got a clue what they like to do, and have perhaps forgotten or never learnt how to have fun. What Laura Doyle suggests is that you make two lists:

  • 10 things you like to do: (read: FUN) - e.g. Going for a ramble in the woods,Sitting by a lake,Getting a hair cut,Manicure / Massage

  • 10 things that make you feel better: (but are not necessarily fun) - e.g. Clearing our your cupboard,Getting your legs waxed,Sweeping the back garden/yard,A 27 Fling-Boogie ala FlyLady!

And then, choose any three, from either list every day.

Make your own Self Care List & Journal here.

Here are some examples:

You will find yourself relaxed and peaceful - no longer on your last thread with a short fuse.

Did you ever plan to cook something speical, only to find you dont have half the ingredients at home?

Never be be caught out again, by making a weekly menu at the begininning of the week. From that menu, write a shopping list of all the things you will need. Write your shopping list by arranging everything in categories, allowing you to get all the fruit when you are in the fruit section, rather than forgetting and having to come back at the end!

Make a Wish.... Watch It Come True...

Here's a treasure right out of The Surrendered Wife and The Secret; Express your desires and watch them come true...

Here's what to do:

  1. Get a piece of paper, and title it: "Wish List", or print one here,
  2. Write down all your immediate wishes! Examples of current wishes could be: To go on a date with dh, To have some DIY repairs done in the house, To go for a ramble over the weekend, A new battery for the laptop, A lovely new watch.....
  3. Display your Wish List somewhere where you dh can see it, (perhaps on the fridge?)
  4. Sit back and let the laws of the universe do their thing!

The trick here is to express you desires - to make them known - without having any expectation of who is going to meet them, and how they will be met.

Most probably, if your dh sees this innocent looking list which comes with no nags attached, he may well be tempted to browse on the net for a new restaurant, or even pick up that screwdriver when he has a few moments to spare!

How Whole is Your Whole Life?

Susan Jeffers, in her book "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway", describes how if you concentrate on just one area of your life (say, your relationship,) and then you have a problem in that area, your whole life falls apart; Yet if you live a full life, with many areas being enriched, when one area of your life is having problems the rest of your life will keep you grounded (such as your friends.)
Susan recommend you have a "life grid" containing areas of your whole life; Here's what mine looks like:

You can make your own Life Grid with your own boxes by printing a blank grid (see below):

First Things First, Stephen Covey

Click book to buy from Inspirity's Book Clinic:

"Stephen Covey, in his book First Things First, notes that those who accomplish very little are probably spending a large amount of their 16 hours in the Quadrant of Deception and the Quadrant of Waste.

In his book he highlights four quadrants where one can spend their time:

1) Quadrant of Necessity

  • The Stress Quadrant
  • The strategy: Do It Now!
  • It needs to be done, and it needs to be done fast!

2) Quadrant of Quality & Personal Leadership,

  • The Value Quadrant
  • The strategy: Schedule time.
  • It needs to be done, plan time to do it before it gets urgent.

3) Quadrant of Deception,

  • The strategy: Delegate.
  • It needs to be done fast, but are you the one that needs to do it?

4) Quadrant of Waste.

  • The Regret Quadrant
  • The strategy: Eliminate
  • Why am I doing this again?

We all have a choice as to how we allocate our time between these quadrants. The trick is to manage your time effectively by:

1) Manage the Quadrant of Necessity as best you can.
2) Focus on the Quadrant of Quality and Personal Leadership for it makes the Quadrant of Necessity more manageable and helps you achieve your goals faster.
3) Be Careful of the Quadrant of Deception because activities in this quadrant may appear urgent when in fact they are not. Too much time here will slow your progress towards reaching your goals.
4) Avoid the Quadrant of Waste as much as possible. Too much time here and you will not achieve your goals at all. "
